Greetings
from ENA
These
slow winter months have brought about quite a bit of change in our local
community. The City of Bellingham hired Tim Stewart as the new Planning
Director and the City Council approved a Greenways Levy for the May
ballot. Design concept meetings have been held about the former Georgia
Pacific property, now referred to as New Whatcom.

website, by visiting the following links:

Local
Community News
A proposal has been filed
with the Planning Department to change the Haskell property in Fairhaven
(Area 4 which is west of Padden Creek on south side of Harris) from an
Industrial Zone to a multi-use Commercial Zone. If approved, this would
allow the developer to build in the same manner of Harris Square and the
proposed Fairhaven Harbor.
Fairhaven Neighbors
strongly opposes this change. If Fairhaven is to become an “Urban Village”,
then there have to be places for folks living here to work. Small light
industry like Brookhaven would be wonderful. The Planning Department seems
to agree, not wanting Fairhaven to simply be a “bedroom community”. Pat
Carman, the Planner responsible for this area, advised City Council to delay
any action on this until Fairhaven has updated their Neighborhood Plan. The
Council has put off the decision for a couple of weeks. We would certainly
appreciate any support you may offer. Emails should be sent to
.

Committee
We
thought it might be beneficial to clarify the difference between an ENA
Board Meeting and a Quarterly General Meeting. We realized that it was
difficult to fit business and presentations in the same two hour meeting.
So we separated the agendas. 'Board' Meetings deal with the business of
the organization. This business includes reports and news from the various
committees and the representatives to the Mayor, the Association of
Bellingham Neighborhoods, and the Coalition of Southside Neighborhoods -
as well as the ENA President and the Treasurer. The agenda for the Board
Meetings could include items that require a motion and any issues that
need a vote of approval. This is not a meeting held exclusively for the
Board – everyone is welcome. Meetings are casual and input is
encouraged.
The
‘General’ Meetings happen every 3 months. At these quarterly meetings
we plan to have a presentation on the agenda and refreshments. Routine
business will be held to a minimum to allow adequate time for the
speaker(s). Everyone in Edgemoor neighborhood is invited to attend.
We
encourage our membership and all Edgemoor residents to support both types
of meetings. We meet at 7 pm every 1st Thursday of the month at the
Fairhaven Park Pavilion Room. Thank you.
Our
committee would welcome new members so please consider joining us.

Neighborhood
Safety Committee
Last
fall the 600 block of Fieldston Road formed a “Block Watch” group.
Although we haven’t had many police issues to deal with it has been
worthwhile getting to know our neighbors a little bit better. Also
we were able to purchase a “Block Watch” sign which is quite
impressive. I had envisioned a small sign about a foot or two off
the ground but to my surprise our sign is about the height of a stop sign
and is quite visible from a distance. I would encourage you to check
out the new sign on the corner of Linden and Fieldston and consider
organizing a group in your block and perhaps purchasing a sign. Spring is
a great time to meet and greet your neighbors especially since most
of us are enjoying the opportunity of meeting a few new faces as homes
that have been on the market seem to be selling….another sign of spring……
Highlights for Safety
Committee
--I will be purchasing
more Keep Kids Alive, Drive 25 yard signs
for anyone interested. Again, they are
$15 a piece and include a stand. I have a current request for
2. Please let me know if anyone else wants any so I can order the right
amount. I’ve witnessed first hand that they ARE working!!!
--I reviewed the police
dept’s daily activity log for the month and found the following incidents:
-3/5 malicious
mischief @ 500 block of Fieldston
-3/8 bicycles
stolen at 2 homes @ 200 block of Briar
-3/25
malicious mischief @ 100 block of Parkridge
-3/25 burglary
@ 500 block of Briar
-3/28 assault
4th degree @ 100 block of Parkridge
