Greetings
From the Communications Committee
Now
that the leaves have fallen and those of us who walk are enjoying the
crisp, clear weather of the season several of us have noticed that other
walkers with dogs have been quite considerate to others by picking up
after their pets. However, they seem to have forgotten to carry their tidy
plastic bags to the nearest trash can. Areas that have previously
been covered with foliage are now littered with forgotten bags. We
urge our neighbors to keep picking up after their pets but too remember to
take home their trash.

Committee Highlights
Communications
Committee
Our
committee as usual has been busy. We are working on a possible mailing to
be sent out to everyone in our neighborhood welcoming them to join us in
ENA. Part of the flyer will be announcing our General Membership Meeting
which will occur in February and also will provide a means to renew your
membership. Since our meeting announcement sign disappeared we are also
discussing a replacement and considering the pros and cons of various
types of signs as well as the cost. Lastly we are continuing with
assembling a newsletter that is both informative and interesting. We
welcome contributions to the newsletter….Happy Holidays….Kathy,

Membership
In
October and November 7 new members joined ENA and we now have over 160
members. We are in the process of putting together a flyer to be
distributed to all Edgemoor residents by mail in January with annual dues
statements. I encourage Edgemoor residents to continue to support ENA by
signing up to work on a committee and paying their 2006 membership dues.

Plan Update
The
Edgemoor
Neighborhood Plan was developed 25 years ago. A committee is being
formed and volunteers are needed to update the plan. The first step was
taken last month at the first of several "Visions of
Edgemoor" meetings. Please consider joining the committee to help update
the neighborhood plan. This will be a lengthy process, which could take
several years to complete. Please contact Brad Rose
if you would like to work on the Neighborhood Plan Update Committee

Block
Watch
Block
Watch co-captain Kathy, sent these hints from the block watch meeting that
the 600 block of Fieldston Road had
a few weeks ago. Officer Young, our neighborhood officer, gave us some
basic information that might be of interest to everyone….The four basic
components of the “Block Watch Philosophy” are as follows:
Light it up – Keep front and back porch lights on during all hours of
darkness….(You might want to consider using the Compact Florescent
Lights or CFL).
Lock it up – Lock all doors and windows to both vehicles and homes
removing valuables from your car every time you leave it. You might want
to check your dead bolt locks to make sure that the screws on the striker
plate are at least 2 inches – If they are short it is much easier to
enter by bashing in the trim around the door which will more easily pull
away from the frame. Also there is a device called the “Bolt Buddy”
that supplements existing dead bolt locks.
Look and Listen – If you see or hear anything suspicious in your
neighborhood take action. Call the neighbors, take down descriptions or
license plates, call 911 as you see fit…do not ignore it. House
prowlers also listen before entering, so you might want to consider
leaving a radio on when you are not home.
Block Watch Signs – Advertise your commitment to your community. You
might want to consider hosting a “Block Watch” party with your
neighbors and learning more about protecting your home. It is a great way
to reconnect with your neighbors and learn a little more about the people
that are part of our great neighborhood.
Safety
hints from Officer Mark Young
Home
addresses are an essential element to a quick response from emergency
services. Check your home address and make sure it can be clearly seen
from the road. Try to imagine that its a dark and stormy night and a first
responded is trying to locate your home. Is your home well marked? There
are several new products on the market, one of them is pictured below.
This is a lighted address box. Address should be centrally located on the
home in a location that can be viewed from the road. If you property has a
long driveway make sure that at the entrance of driveway is marked as
well. Clear bush or tress from any address marker and use a reflective
material. If you home is serviced by an alley make sure you home is also
marked so that it can be seen from the alley.
