ENA President’s Update – March 2005

Hello everyone, how fast a month goes by. Due to a conflict with the April 7 Public Meeting regarding the Fairhaven Heights Development, our guest speaker on crime prevention and the neighborhood Block Watch program, Officer Mark Young, will be rescheduled to a later date. Due to the critical nature of the Fairhaven Heights presentation, and the potential impact that faces Edgemoor neighborhood, our ENA monthly meeting has been changed to April 14. I encourage you to attend this informative meeting with the developers of Fairhaven Highlands.

In addition, you are invited to an important Community Meeting on Wednesday April 6th, 2005 at the Fairhaven Middle School’s Commons at 6:30 p.m. City officials will be talking about Growth and Development in Bellingham, including Fairhaven. The Mayor and City Planning staff will be on hand to answer your questions. Southside Coalition of Neighborhoods will have a booth where ENA will be represented. I strongly recommend that people attend these meetings to better educate themselves, get involved and determine the avenues of action that we have available to us. This will be the main topic at our April 14 ENA meeting.

The Bylaws Committee has recently updated the draft of the ENA Bylaws and they are posted on the website for review. A follow-up Bylaws Committee meeting is scheduled for April 12. Please email comments or suggestions to the committee chair, Brien Thane. I would like to draw your attention to the section of the Bylaws concerning the neighborhood representative to the mayor’s advisory board. The Bylaws Committee suggests ENA appoint Sherry to the Board to better represent us in these meetings. This and other revisions will be addressed at the April 14th ENA meeting. Please be prepared to discuss the Bylaws.

Also, the city has volunteered to give a presentation to the ENA on the city’s budget. Please give this consideration and let me know if this of interest to you. In addition, you might like to read a letter from the Southside Coalition of Neighborhoods that we as ENA have been asked to support.

Finally, I will put together a meeting agenda in the next day or two. Please submit any topics you want considered as soon as possible so we can, if time allows, include them on the agenda.

I look forward to seeing you at these meetings. Also, please remember to bring a neighbor; there is strength in numbers.

Respectfully,
