Growth and Land Use Committee Report 8/24/05:

The ENA Growth and Land Use Committee did not meet this month.  We will have our next meeting in the middle of September - specific date will be announced at the ENA meeting on Thursday.  It is a relatively slow month in the neighborhood land use realm.  The only thing to report is that the city has approved the next mega development in Fairhaven.  The plan for this new building - which will be directly south of the soon to be completed Harris Square complex - is to be Apartments, not Condos. 

NOTICE OF DECISION
The City of Bellingham Planning Director approved Planned Development and Fairhaven Design Review permits for the proposed project listed below on July 22, 2005.

PDC2004-00030 and DRC2004-00030: A 4-5 story mixed use (retail, office, and residential uses) with two levels of underground parking, on a 40,000 square foot site. Property is located at 1440 10th Street, Legally Described as Parcel B, Tennis Club LLA less 5’ McKenzie, Parcel # 370201 070050, Fairhaven Neighborhood, Area 5, zoned Commercial, Planned.

There is an application submitted to build a Parking Garage under McKenzie between 12th and 11th streets. I went to the presentation meeting a couple of months ago and the plans call for an 8' X 8' mechanical shed placed in

the middle of McKenzie at 12th St. This building will house the HVAC equipment and an emergency staircase. It is unclear if any of the parking in the garage will be open to the public and who will pay for the long-term maintenance for the structure. The applicants will be required to provide 45 parking spaces during construction. It is not stated how close to Fairhaven

these parking spaces will be. I encourage all who are concerned or have questions to write Jackie Lynch (jlynch@cob.org) at the planning Department an d ask her the specifics of the project.

NOTICE OF APPLICATION, OPTIONAL DNS PROCESS, AND POSSIBLE PUBLIC MEETING

The City of Bellingham’s Planning and Community Development Department (PCDD) has received an application for:

Project description: Construction of a 30-40 space underground parking garage. A driveway down off 11th, an 8’ x 8’ mechanical room at 12th, and two stairways will be visible to the public.

Location: Within McKenzie Avenue, between 11th and 12th Streets.

Neighborhood: Fairhaven
