ENA
GROWTH AND LAND USE COMMITTEE REPORT –
MARCH 2005
The Growth and Land Use Committee met on March 23. We had a short presentation from Frank James
who is a member of the group “Responsible
Development!”. “Responsible
Development!” Is an action group addressing the pending development of the “Fairhaven Heights” development (Formerly
Chuckanut Ridge & 100 acre
woods). They are circulating a petition
to have the city not approve any applications on the site until significant
improvements to transportation planning and facilities have been
accomplished. Information is available
at www.onehundredacrewood.org.
After Frank’s presentation, we discussed the up coming
April 6th Planning Department Meeting on Growth and
Development. This meeting will be held
at the Fairhaven Middle School commons
at 6:30. The agenda for the meeting will be posted on
the ENA web site. Everyone that is
concerned with the development going on specifically in Fairhaven, please attend and make your
concerns heard.
Other topics of discussion:
There will be a Hearing examiner’s meeting on April 13, 2005 to
address two issues of interest to residents of the Edgemoor area. These are
1:
FARIHAVEN HARBOR
COMPLEX – 8th and Harris
Ave. A
conditional use permit is required for construction of a 3 and a 9 story,
185,000 square foot building with approximately 14,000 square feet of
commercial/retail space, 80 residential units, 200 on-site under-building
parking spaces, and 35 on-street parking spaces. A Conditional Use Permit is
required because a portion of the project is within 100’ of Padden Creek.

2:
VAC2005-0001 – states: Request
for vacation of the north 5 feet of McKenzie ave between 10th st.
and 9th st. and dedication of the south 5 feet of McKenzie between
these same streets – there will be no net loss to the public right of way.
Andre Molnar – Petitioner
Craig Parkinson – Contact Person
This basically states that they want to move the McKenzie
right of way 5 feet south to account for an encroachment of a building that is
currently being built at the corner of 10 and McKenzie. This movement of the
right of way will give the developers the room necessary to provide some on
street parking to accommodate the planned construction of the next 150,000 sq
foot Retail/Office/Residential building at the corner of 10th
and McKenzie.
For more information: Look at the application notice at
the corner of 10th and McKenzie. (COB has yet to post official
notice on web site) or contact Jackie Lynch of the planning department (jlynch@cob.org) or the developers off the
project. To get a visual idea of the
issue, head south on McKenzie from 12th
street and notice where the large building on 10th Street
prudes to.
