Edgemoor Neighborhood Association

Monthly Business Meeting

November 3, 2005

Minutes

The Monthly Business Meeting of Edgemoor Neighborhood Association was called to order at 7:15 on November 3rd at the Fairhaven Park Pavilion.  ENA President, Brien Thane, was present to facilitate the meeting.  Lauri Grove recorded the minutes.  A quorum was not present.

Due to lack of a quorum, the October minutes were unable to be approved.  They will be on the agenda for approval at the next meeting.

Report of Officers

President, Brien Thane read a letter we received from the City of Bellingham requesting nominations for an Edgemoor Representative and alternate to the Mayor’s Neighborhood Advisory Commission (MNAC).  Brad Rose had already applied and been approved as Edgemoor Representative to MNAC and Niall Hackett volunteered to apply for the position as alternate.  Lauri was asked to contact the MNAC with our nomination and approval of both representatives.

Treasurer, Lois Miles presented the budget report and offered we have 3 new members this month.  As a point of interest – 2 of the membership applications came from the door-knob-hangers sent out this summer.  She also requested approval to pay $48.00 for the ENA mailbox for 2006

A detailed budget report was presented to the secretary to file.

Committee Reports

Communication Committee Chair, Kathy Kaiser, had several points to discuss at this meeting.  First, we received very little feed-back from the survey.  Brien suggested we encourage membership input during an ‘Issues and Concerns’ portion of the meeting.  This could be a better way to get to know the interests of the residents.  Also, Lois offered that comments were occasionally added to membership applications sent to Sandie.  Kathy continued with a discussion of mailing an informational flier to all residents.  This would inform, encourage and remind residents to become active members of ENA 2006.  The communication committee would like the board’s help preparing the mail-out and suggested using a business meeting to put it together.  The board members present agreed this would be a good use of our time and funds, but due to lack of a quorum were unable to give final approval.  A discussion and request for approval of the mail-out would be on the agenda for the December meeting.  This discussion lead to the problem of having a January General Membership Meeting so close to the holidays especially since membership fees would be due.  Brien used his prerogative as President to move the General Membership Meeting to February.  Kathy ended her report with news that our sign was stolen and we need a replacement sign to advertise meetings.  Kathy would price them and try to keep it under $100.00.

v  Please note the General Membership Meeting planned in January was moved to February.

Hospitality Committee  - no report.

Growth and Land Use Committee did not have a report.  Kathy Kaiser did offer a few letters received from the city concerning land use issues that would be posted on the city site and our ENA site.

Membership Committee - no report.

Neighborhood Safety Committee – no report.

Neighborhood Plan Update – no report.  Lauri Grove commented that the Vision of Edgemoor meeting went very well.  Brad and Ralph formatted an interesting, enjoyable and informative session.  Breaking up into smaller groups and encouraging neighbors to talk with one another brought out many “visions” for our neighborhood plan.

Representative Reports

Coalition of Southside Neighborhoods– no report

Association of Bellingham Neighborhoods- The ABN has not met since October 17, so the report for 10/17/05 is still up-to-date.

New Business

Time to start thinking about suggestions for a speaker for the February meeting.  Please email Brien with suggestions or come prepared to offer ideas at the December meeting.  A suggestion was made to invite a representative from Nooksak Salmon Enhancement to speak about protecting the salmon in our rivers and creeks.

We also brainstormed about how to get more interaction at our meetings.  A suggestion was made to use the format from the Vision of Edgemoor meeting to encourage people to meet and speak out about their community concerns.

Issues and Concerns

Joe Yaver talked about a Responsible Development update planned in November.  He wanted to make sure all residents were informed and invited to the meeting at Lairmont Manor on November 10th.

Closing

Meeting was adjourned at 8:45 pm.

The next meeting scheduled would be an Edgemoor Neighborhood Association Business Meeting to be held on December 1st at Fairhaven Park Pavilion.  All Edgemoor residents are welcome to attend.

Respectfully Submitted,

Lauri Grove
