Communications Committee Meeting, Friday, March 18, 2005

Website:  We will recommend to the members at the next ENA Meeting that we leave the website as the Edgemoor Neighborhood website. Our committee will assist Sandie with any ENA information that is put on the site.  We will be including both civic and community information and that information will be reviewed by our committee before it is included on the website.  We also feel that any issues with the website need to be brought to the attention of this committee to be addressed before anything is brought to the membership. In the event that someone else would like to create a website solely for the ENA our committee should review the proposal and present our recommendation to the membership.

Letterboxes:  Two letter boxes are missing.  The decision was to replace them this time after consulting Lois as to our committee’s financial position.  Lauri mentioned that the Briza area is discussing a ban on advertising in the neighborhood.

Meeting Notices:  Sandie will print some more membership forms and create a vinyl insert with the normal meeting date on the top and a notice of the Block Watch speaker on the bottom which can be cut off after the meeting so that the vinyl can still be used.  She will let Diane know about the notices.

Promotion of the “Block Watch” speaker:  After some discussion we decided to put a prominent notice on the website and make a vinyl notice with the normal meeting time/location on the top and a notice concerning the “Block Watch” speaker on the bottom to be inserted in the letterboxes.

Neighborhood:  We briefly discussed this issue again and feel that this should be delayed until we are a bit more organized

Permanent Sign:  Lois gave us some information on a more permanent sign which we discussed.  Kathy’s brother also does vinyl cutting and would help make a sign but we decided to table this until we have more time and are sure of our finances.

Meeting Date:  We decided to set a permanent meeting date to make it easier to get together.  Since the newsletter deadline is 10 days before the meeting which is the Tuesday before we decided to meet the Wednesday of that week.. i.e. March 30th, April 27th, May 25th, June 29th, July 27th at Sandie’s.  We will meet at 7 p.m. and try to be finished by 9 p.m.  We will be editing articles for the newsletter and deciding what should be included.  Each month please let me know whether or not you can attend.  We may need to schedule additional meetings but we will see how this works.

Other:  We discussed the ENA leadership as we don’t have a V.P. at this time and also that it would be helpful if the secretary sets and types the agenda. Lauri will consult with Niall.  We also mentioned hospitality at the April meeting and Lauri said that she would ask Laurie Renne about providing refreshments.   We had a discussion concerning the Fairhaven Neighborhood website and whether or not it is associated with the Southside Coalition.  Lauri will check on this….???I think that Lauri or Sandie is called Paul regarding the View Committee report that mentions the Citizen View Committee so that we can add a contact to the website.  We decided to leave the View Committee information on the website as an historical record of the committee’s work.  It was also suggested that the Hospitality Committee consider neighborhood walks/or neighborhood coffees.  Lauri will take these suggestions to the committee.
